Summit aims to address needs such as caregiver education, public awareness and better access to respite for Montana’s caregivers

The Montana Lifespan Respite Coalition, in collaboration with the Department of Public Health and Human Services and AARP Montana, will host the annual Lifespan Respite Summit at the Wingate Hotel in Helena on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The theme of this year’s summit is “Refuel and Recharge: Coping with Compassion Fatigue.”

“The goal of the summit is to connect attendees with support and solutions; empower attendees with insights and information; and engage attendees with interesting presentations,” said Tim Summers, AARP Montana State Director. “We also want to spark important conversations about what we need as family caregivers in our communities, our workplaces and our health care system.”

Headlining the event is Elaine Ryan, Vice President of State Advocacy and Strategy Integration with AARP. Elaine leads a team of legislative staff in the Government Affairs Department who work with AARP’s state offices in the 50 states, DC and the territories.  Together, they advance AARP’s advocacy agenda with Governors and state legislators throughout the nation to enable individuals age 50+ and their families attain and maintain their long-term financial security and health.

The daylong event will include a luncheon, caregiver panel, roundtable discussion and an opportunity to learn and network from caregivers and professionals in the field.

The registration fee is $10. To register visit www.respite.mt.gov. For more information, contact Jackie Stoeckel, Aging Services, at jstoeckel@mt.gov or 444-6061.
