RI Forum to Address Hunger Among Latinos on November 13

Community Leaders Convene in Providence

LATINO Magazine will present a NO MAS HAMBRE Forum at 12-2 PM on Thursday, November 13 at Johnson & Wales University at the Harbor View Building, 1150 Narragansett Boulevard, Cranston, RI 02905. The event is free and open to the public and will include community leaders, elected officials, anti-hunger activists, and representatives of the media. "Nearly one in three Latinos go hungry," said LATINO Publisher Alfredo Estrada, "although many of us simply aren’t aware of this crisis. If we want to end hunger, we need to get our community actively engaged. We're delighted to partner with AARP in Providence."

“We are enormously pleased to host NO MAS HAMBRE and to join in exploring new opportunities to combat hunger,” said AARP Rhode Island State Director Kathleen Connell. “Decreasing the number of food-insecure households strengthens communities – and that helps build a better Rhode Island for everyone.”

This event is part of NO MAS HAMBRE, a nationwide initiative launched by LATINO Magazine and AARP Foundation to raise awareness of hunger in the Latino community and encourage Latinos to get involved. The Forum in Providence will present ways to join the fight against hunger and cover the importance of a healthy diet, food insecurity among Latino elderly, community gardens, and other topics. Complimentary food and refreshments will be served.

The audience will then participate in a question and answer session moderated by LATINO Publisher Alfredo Estrada with invited panelists and speakers, including:
