AARP Alabama to host Tele-Townhall on General Fund Budget Crisis on September 2

AARP Alabama will host a tele-townhall on Wednesday, September 2 at 10 AM CDT on the topic of the General Fund budget crisis. Joining us will be Governor Bentley's Chief of Staff, Seth Hammett; Christy Cain, Executive Director of the advocacy group Alabama Children First; and Jim Carnes from Alabama Arise.

We will be taking calls from the public on this important topic. The governor has called a second special session of the Legislature to begin on September 8, and the fiscal year begins on October 1. Currently proposed budget cuts will hurt older Alabamians who count on critical programs such as meals on wheels, prescription assistance, and home health care. Other cuts will drastically reduce support to family caregivers as they help their loved ones live at home instead of a costly nursing home. From food safety to the court system, from foster care to law enforcement, the extreme budget cuts being considered will affect all Alabamians.

We encourage everyone, and especially our nearly 450,000 AARP members in the state, to listen in and participate by asking questions at 10 AM on Wednesday, September 2. The link below will allow you to listen to the discussion and type a question. We will answer as many questions as time allows during the 60-minute tele-townhall.
