AARP Florida Names Miami Business Leader as Volunteer State President

AARP Florida State Director Jeff Johnson has appointed Donna L. Ginn of Miami as the new volunteer state president of AARP Florida.

“I am very excited about working with everyone in the state to advance the interests of those of us who are 50 plus. I am committed to helping AARP make a difference in Florida and I invite all volunteers to work with me to make that happen. I look forward to building a team that works to get things done and I will be listening for best practices across the state that advance our goals,” states Ginn. “On a personal note, my contribution to “Disrupting Aging” began when I was in college and I adopted Bob Dylan’s song Forever Young as my personal mantra. Remember this quote from Jules Renard, 'It’s not how old you are, it’s how you are old.' Let’s be forever young and happy.”

Ms. Ginn built a business career at the Procter & Gamble Co., rising to a post as Latin American Division Manager of Organizational Development in Caracas, Venezuela.  Later she founded and leads Crossroad Consulting Group, an international organizational development company serving clients across the U.S. and in Europe, Asia and Latin America. As an organizational development practitioner and executive coach, she has helped Fortune 100 companies, governmental agencies, hospitals, educational institutions and other organizations to improve their effectiveness.

She has served in leadership roles in many community or social-impact organizations.  She is the immediate past president of Greater Miami Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, an international nonprofit organization of about 14,000 professional women of color.  She is a trustee member at United Way of Greater Miami and served as co-chair of the Children’s Impact Council.  She has served as president of the board of the Urban League of Greater Miami and of the YWCA of Greater Cincinnati.  She has also served as a board director of the League of Women Voters, the Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida, and the YWCA of Greater Miami.  She holds a Master of Science in Organization Development from American University and certifications in organization development from MIT’s Sloan School of Management and the NTL Institute of Applied Behavioral Science.

AARP Florida volunteer state presidents serve as the “voice of the volunteer” in helping to shape policy and strategy in national and state government, contributing to AARP activities and events around the state and working closely with hundreds of AARP volunteers across the state and nationwide.
