AARP Foundation Tax-Aide helped over 80,000 Arizona residents with their tax preparation services during the 2014 tax filing season.

“We had an amazing year,” says Frank Perazelli, state coordinator for the national community service program in Arizona. “Through the efforts of our 1200 volunteers statewide we filed over 52,000 tax returns and saved people more than $10.4 million in preparation fees.”

The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program is an annual program that provides free tax preparation to those of low to moderate income, with a focus on those over 60 years of age.

Perazelli adds that he is already gearing up for next year’s tax filing season. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide will begin recruiting volunteers in September.

“Volunteers don’t need to have tax-preparation experience,” said Perazelli. “All of our volunteers receive training through the program in conjunction with the IRS. Volunteers also don’t have to be an AARP member to participate.”
