Join AARP Hawaii for free Movies for Grownups screenings of “Hacksaw Ridge,” in Hilo, Kahului and Honolulu this month.
The movie stars Andrew Garfield, Sam Worthington and Vince Vaughn. Mel Gibson directed. It was nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Director and won for film editing and sound mixing.
“Hacksaw Ridge” is the true story of Desmond Doss, who saved 75 men in Okinawa during one of the bloodiest battles of World War II. Garfield plays Doss, an Army medic who believed the war was justified, but killing was wrong. He served on the front lines without a weapon and was the first conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honor.
The Hilo screening is at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25 at 6 p.m. at the Regal Prince Kuhio. The Kahului screening is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 26 at the Regal Maui Mall Megaplex 12 and the Honolulu showing is at 6 p.m. at the Regal Dole Cannery Stadium 18.
