The Colorado History Center will be celebrating El Movimiento: The Chicano Movement in Colorado.  Come and check out these great programs.

Family Free Day (Sponsored by AARP)

Saturday, September 12

Explore El Movimiento: The Chicano Movement in Colorado and the entire History Colorado Center for FREE from 10 am to 5 pm. Enjoy performances from Grupo Folklorico Sabor Latino,Concheros dancers and musicians. In addition, help celebrate Rocky Mountain National Park’s 100th anniversary with a slice of cake while you learn the skills you need to camp in Colorado from the Camp Moreno Project.

 

 

El Movimiento: Looking Back, Looking Forward is a series of community dialogues sponsored by AARP. Join us as we hear from panelists about El Movimiento and where we are today.

Wednesday, September 16, 6 p.m.

Explore the art, music, poetry, and dance of El Movimiento and how the arts were important to the movement. Panel discussion, poetry, and more.

The Latino Experience in Vietnam

Wednesday, October 21, 6 p.m.

The Vietnam War and the Chicano Movement are inextricably linked. Latino soldiers died at a disproportionally high rate during the war, and many came home wondering why the democratic ideals they fought for abroad were denied to them at home. Join us for a discussion that looks at the Latino experience in Vietnam and the Chicano and Anti-war movements.

 

Chicano Theater: Stereotypes, Icons and other Contradictions.

Tuesday, November 10, 6 p.m.

Su Teatro, Denver’s nationally acclaimed theatre company will present Luis Valdez’ “Los Vendidos” as well as “I think I’m Turning Mexican” by Tony Garcia. Artistic Director/playwright Garcia will host an evening of performance and discussion examining the role of Chicano Theatre as a political and social tool for criticism and community engagement.  The discussion could include any or all of the following; collective rantings, reflections and reasonable responses.
