(Jackson, MS) - AARP Regional Vice President for the South Region, John B. Caine, II, has announced the appointment of Kimberly L. Campbell as the AARP Mississippi State Director, effective May 23, 2016.

As State Director, Campbell will be responsible for leading and directing AARP’s work in advocacy, community engagement, and communications to serve 281,000 AARP members in Mississippi. Campbell, an attorney, currently is a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, District 72.

In announcing the appointment, Caine said, “I am thrilled to welcome Kimberly Campbell to the AARP organization as we continue to add value to the 50-plus population and their families in the great state of Mississippi.”

He added, “Ms. Campbell brings great knowledge and experience that affords AARP opportunities to work with communities, businesses, and state legislative leaders.”

Campbell has served almost nine years in the Mississippi State Legislature. She is the Vice Chairwoman of Banking and Financial Services and Sub-Committee Chairwoman for Domestic Affairs in the Judiciary B Committee. Campbell also serves as a member of the Performance Evaluation and Expenditure Review and Public Utilities Committees. Having held Vice Chair roles under both Democratic and Republican leadership in the House, Campbell understands the importance of considering all sides of an issue and working across partisan lines.

“I am excited to become a new member of the AARP Mississippi team,” Campbell said. “I think we have many opportunities around the state to serve the 50-plus population. I look forward to increasing AARP’s presence in all parts of Mississippi.”

Campbell has volunteered with multi-generational and diverse organizations, including: Junior League of Jackson, Jackson State University’s Institute of Government Advisory Board and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She is a Leadership Jackson Alumni.

“I am thrilled for her to accept this position at AARP Mississippi,” said Camille Scales Young, a long-time friend and community leader. “On a personal note, I’m sad to see her leave the State Legislature. But I’m happy to see her serve a different population of Mississippians.”

Campbell also has served as the City Attorney for Belzoni, Mississippi, representing the City, Mayor and Board of Aldermen. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Mississippi State University and a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Communications from Auburn University. She earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law.

“I look forward to working with Kimberly as AARP Mississippi’s new State Director and helping Mississippi’s 50-plus population and their families live their best lives,” said AARP Mississippi State President Bettye Taylor. “We’ve made great inroads, and now we’ll make even greater strides.”
