AARP Multicultural Voices Spotlights: Reggie Nance

Reggie Nance

AARP recently did a Multicultural Voices Spotlight and for the month of February, they shined a light on one of our own, Reggie Nance.

Reggie Nance works as the Associate State Director for Multicultural Engagement for AARP New York, overseeing outreach to African-Americans, Blacks, and Caribbean-Americans across the state of New York. He is a native of Cordele, Georgia and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and American Literature from Brown University.

Prior to AARP, Reggie worked as an Account Executive for Social Impact Marketing at Cumulus Media in New York City.. He is the former Director for Incite New York, a social impact marketing position he held for six years, working extensively with former Mayor Bloomberg’s “Wake UP!  NYC” campaign to combat chronic absenteeism and truancy in NYC public schools.

For the Multicultural Voices Spotlight, Reggie answered some questions for us:

What motivates you to do what you do?
I believe that my purpose in life is to build people up and transform lives, and that is what I wake up and live for every day.

What was your journey like starting at AARP and working on multicultural outreach?
From the start of my AARP journey I have been able to engage in unique and innovative ways to reach multicultural audiences, and that has been incredibly fulfilling.

Why is it important to engage multicultural communities?
We live in a multicultural world, and when we engage with multicultural audiences we engage with the world. Furthermore if AARP is to continue to grow and thrive, a multicultural focus is essential.

What is a fun or interesting fact that most people wouldn’t know about you?I recently wrote a book about African-Americans from my hometown, Cordele, Georgia, who are doing great things in the world. The book will be published this Fall.
