Gardena, CA – At a ceremony today at the Second Time Around Senior Club, Representative Maxine Waters (CD 43) was presented with AARP’s “Champion of 50+” award, in recognition of her strong support for a new U.S. Department of Labor rule, which requires that retirement plan advice be given in the best interest of consumers – a rule which could save American families billions of dollars per year. Rep. Waters also voted AGAINST legislation that would have stopped the rule from taking effect.

“I will always vote to protect Social Security because it provides our citizens with a means to retire and live with dignity,” Rep. Waters said. “So thank you, AARP, for your leadership on this issue and working with us on this fight.”

AARP California Advocacy Manager Blanca Castro commended Rep. Waters for her unwavering support.

“Congresswoman Waters has been a consistent champion for the 50+ population, both in her district and across the nation,” said Castro. “I am so proud to present this award on behalf of more than 38 million AARP members nationwide to acknowledge the Congresswoman’s important leadership in protecting the retirement savings of millions of Americans.”
