AARP Ohio Brings 'Hidden Figures' to Cleveland Pink Carpet Premier

Earlier this month we were thrilled to collaborate with the Alpha Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. (AKA), the nation’s oldest predominately African American sorority, to present six screenings of Hidden Figures in Cleveland.

The ‘Pink Carpet Premier’ set a new national attendance record for AARP Movies for Grown Ups events. More than 900 Ohioans were engaged in the opportunity to view this important and critically-acclaimed film with their sorority sisters, friends, and family members.

Hidden Figures is the incredible untold story of Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughn and Mary Jackson—brilliant African-American women working at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, a stunning achievement that restored the nation’s confidence, turned around the Space Race, and galvanized the world.

As the primary partner, AARP Ohio also joined the NASA Glenn Research Center to provide a screening experience that included a gallery highlighting the women and their ground-breaking contributions to math, science and the NASA program.
