“AARP has long valued the spirit of volunteerism and the important contributions volunteers make to their communities, neighbors, and the programs they serve. Kathryn embodies all of these values and commitments and is an important leader in her community,” said Will Phillips AARP Minnesota State Director.

Kathryn was among dozens of seniors nominated for the Andrus Award and was chosen for her outstanding work with the Alexandria Senior Community Center. Over the past few years she has led an effort to strengthen the Senior Community Center. As a result of her efforts, membership has risen over 400%, programs to enrich the lives of seniors have been added, local businesses and organizations are being engaged and donations have increased.

“Kathryn’s record of achievement, service and commitment provides an extraordinary example of the difference that volunteers can make in the lives of individuals and in the well-being and vitality of a community,” said Phillips.

This year, the Senior Community Center provided AARP’s Safe Driver trainings for 731 community members making the Alexandria Center the 9 th busiest training site in the entire nation.
