AARP AARP States Indiana Scams & Fraud

Attend a Central Indiana Shred Event on Oct. 22

Protecting yourself from fraud has never been more important.
Fraud Watch

Hard-working Americans are being scammed out of the money they’ve earned and unfortunately older Hoosiers are often the prime target of these scams.  That is why Indiana is again sponsoring Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana's  Community Shredding event on Saturday, Oct. 22nd from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at five Central Indiana locations. Protect yourself by taking that sensitive information you have lying around the house and don’t need anymore and shred it. The locations where you can visit are:

  • WTHR - 1000 N. MERIDIAN ST. - HOSTED BY IMPD/WTHR
  • CREEKSIDE MIDDLE SCHOOL - 3525 W. 126TH STREET - HOSTED BY CPD/WISH TV
  • GREENWOOD PARK MALL - 1251 US HIGHWAY 31 NORTH - HOSTED BY GPD
  • SPEEDWAY POLICE DEPT. - 1410 N. LYNHURST DR. - HOSTED BY SPD/CBS4
  • LAWRENCE POLICE DEPARTMENT - 9001 E. 59TH STREET- HOSTED BY LPD

Join us at one of the locations this Saturday and for only a $5 donation per box you can have your information shredded. Electronics can also be recycled with a $10 fee being charged for glass TV or computer monitors.

Staff and volunteers from AARP will be at each of the locations handing out information on our Fraud Watch Network.

The AARP Fraud Watch Network connects people to experts, law enforcement and fellow Hoosiers who are spotting fraud and sharing their experiences so others know what to watch out for.

Available free of charge to AARP members and non-members alike, and people of any age, the Fraud Watch Network provides:

  • Watchdog Alert emails that deliver breaking scam information,
  • Prevention tips based on the latest information from experts,
  • An interactive map with the latest law enforcement warnings from each state,
  • A phone number people can call to talk to volunteers trained to help fraud victims, and
  • Access to a network of people who are sharing their experiences with scams so they can help others protect themselves.
