Attention Lansing residents: You're invited!

Lansing Age-Friendly forum March 2016

AARP Michigan and the City of Lansing invite area residents to participate in a community conversation about making Lansing the best place it can be for all ages.

The event will be at the Allen Neighborhood Center, 1629 E. Kalamazoo St., from 9 am. to 12 noon on Wednesday, April 13.

“We are looking for input from Lansing residents about what they need and want in order to remain in and connected to the community in the years ahead,” said Karen Kafantaris, AARP Michigan Associate State Director for Livable Communities. “If you live, work or play in the city, it’s in your best interest to attend.”

Lansing recently joined the AARP/World Health Organization Age-Friendly Communities Network. Entering the network is a signal that Lansing will strive to become a great place for all ages by adopting such features as safe, walkable streets; better housing and transportation options; access to key services; and opportunities for residents to participate in community activities

Dramatic demographic change coming in the city, state and nation means communities over the next decade will need to support twice as many people over age 65 as they do today.

What will that mean for local health care, social services, work force, housing, transportation accessibility and economic development? The community conversation will cover these issues and invite citizens to comment.
