Baby boomers who are planning for or approaching retirement are invited to attend After Hours with AARP in Lincoln on Oct. 30 or Nov. 6.

The informal wine-and-food event will be held on both dates from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Art and Soul, located on 5740 Hidcote Drive.

“Join us for wine tasting and a cooking demonstration along with some tips from an experienced Certified Financial Planner to help you prepare for a secure retirement,” said Connie Benjamin, state director of AARP Nebraska. “We will offer unbiased information in a fun and relaxed atmosphere to help people take charge of their futures and make smart financial decisions.”

There is no charge to attend After Hours with AARP, but registration is required and space is limited. You do not need to be an AARP member to attend. Call 1-877-926-8300 or register online by Oct. 21 to reserve your spot for one of the two sessions.

Guests will enjoy an evening of conversation, wine tasting paired with seasonal appetizers and a cooking demonstration of the chef’s favorite recipes. Beer and non-alcoholic beverages also will be provided.

Bob Fitzsimmons, CFP® professional securities licensed through Investacorp, Inc., Member FINRA/SIPC, will share financial planning tips especially relevant for boomers. He will review investing strategies and vehicles both before and after retirement, including stocks, bonds, mutual funds, annuities and alternative investments; tools to help you save for your future; when to collect Social Security to maximize benefits; ways to make your money last in retirement; and how to check the credentials of financial advisors.

Every day, an estimated 10,000 boomers in the U.S. turn 65, an age often associated with stepping into retirement. Benjamin noted that many boomers are understandably anxious about their financial futures.

“In a time when people are increasingly responsible for planning their own financial security in retirement, AARP strives to help individuals save money and make informed financial decisions,” she said. “After decades of hard work, boomers want financial independence and peace of mind as they grow older.”
