Community is all about feeling connected. Its about having something in common with others, whether it is where you live or a shared interested. What better way to connect with your community than over a cup of coffee? AARP in Sioux Falls is working to foster those connections and provide a little extra value to our members. Every from Friday from 7- 11 am stop by Kaladi’s Bistro at 26th and Minnesota in Sioux Falls, show your server your AARP card and we’ll buy your coffee. You can get it to stay, or go. No strings attached.
“We want people to know we’re here in an unexpected way,” said Sarah Jennings. “AARP staff members and volunteers will be around each Friday should anyone want to share what’s on their mind, but we get that people are busy. We want people to people know we’re here, we are working on issues that are important to them and their families, and we’re available to listen to them about the things they care about.
In addition to the “Free Coffee Fridays” AARP in Sioux Falls is hosting a series of events throughout 2014, to give members an opportunity to experience some of the great things the community has to offer and connect with other AARP members. AARP in Sioux Falls recently hosted “Uncorked Canvases” at the Washington Pavilion, and “Rain: a tribute to the Beatles” complete with a pre-show and intermission dessert reception.
“This is first for us.” Jennings said. “Most people know AARP for our discounts, our advocacy work at the state and federal level, and our educational opportunities. We’re going to continue to do the work we’ve always done. But, we want to show members, and those who haven’t yet joined AARP that we can also provide opportunities to enjoy life and have a lot of fun.”
Additional upcoming events include “Money Matters for All Ages” – a day filled with workshops and educational session on planning for a secure financial future; sporting events; arts and cultural events, and more. Keep watching our event calendar for information on future events and registration information.
