Candidates square off October 1 in Palmer

House 11, House 12 and Senate Seat F candidates face potential constituents


ANCHORAGE, AK – Candidates running for House District 11, House District 12 and Senate Seat F will meet in a Candidate Forum at the Mat-Su Senior Services, 1132 South Chugach Street in Palmer on Wed., Oct. 1 from 6:00 to 8:15 p.m. The event is sponsored by AARP Alaska.


Shelley Hughes (R) and Pete LaFrance (D), candidates for House District 11 will answer questions from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in the Dining Room of the Mat-Su Senior Center. The Hughes/LaFrance forum will be moderated by Mark Kelsey, publisher of the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman.


Meanwhile, Cathy Tilton (R) and Gretchen Wehmhoff (D), candidates for House District 12, will answer questions in the Mat-Su Senior Center’s Activity Room. The Tilton/Wehmhoff forum will be moderated by Rachel Greenberg, Deputy Director of the Mat-Su Senior Services.


In the race for Senate Seat F, candidates Patricia Chesbro (D) and Bill Stoltze (R) will answer questions in the Dining Room from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. Kelsey and Greenberg will co-moderate the Chesbro/Stoltze forum.


The candidates will address issues ranging from financial security, caregiving, financial exploitation of the elderly, access to health care, and whether Alaska should return to a defined benefit retirement system. Attendees will also be invited to ask the candidates questions.

The forum is free and open to the public.
