Between work and family responsibilities, caregivers lead extremely busy and stressful lives. The number of issues they may face in a caregiving role can be daunting – from sorting through a web of insurance and financial issues, to arranging transportation and helping ensure health care needs are met and instructions followed.
At any given time, more than 364,000 Nevadans are serving as caregivers – including more than a third of residents over the age of 50. Recognizing the critical and complex roles that caregivers play – whether caring for an aging parent, a spouse or even a disabled child - AARP Nevada is hosting a series of Caregiver Connections events, designed to help those caring for family members connect with resources and experts to help navigate the difficult issues they face every day.
Caregiver Connections events will be held in both southern and northern Nevada, focusing on different topics throughout the year. These interactive sessions will include presentations by experts providing practical advice, valuable information and answers to your caregiving questions.
A schedule of upcoming Caregiver Connections topics and event dates is below. Visit this page to register for any upcoming session in your area, and to see the latest schedule updates.
Preparing for a Successful Hospital Stay
Going to the doctor or the hospital, even for a routine procedure, can cause anxiety and fear. As a caregiver, you may have questions about your loved one’s health and prescribed medications, but are not sure how to ask or are too overwhelmed to start the conversation. In this free workshop, family caregivers will learn from the experts which questions to ask in advance, and find resources that can help prepare for a loved one’s hospital visit, and a better transition from hospital to home.
We hope you’ll join us for a Caregiver Connections event in your area! In the meantime, find caregiving resources, information and assistance at the AARP Caregiving Resource Center. Also, be sure to follow AARP Nevada on Twitter, and join the conversation using hashtag #nvcaregivers
