Volunteering AARP Delaware is recruiting instructors to teach AARP Driver Safety classes. Last year Delaware volunteers taught 406 classes to 5,115 participants. Delaware drivers who complete the course are eligible for discounts on automobile liability insurance. To become an instructor, volunteers must take the six-hour classroom course, plus eight to 12 hours of training. New instructors co-teach classes until they feel confident to go solo. Volunteering AARP encourages people to volunteer to pack meal boxes for older residents and perform other tasks at the Food Bank of Delaware’s two sites in Newark and Milford. The boxes contain juice, cereal, vegetables, milk, beans or peanut butter, pasta and such items as tuna, canned chili, beef stew or chicken. New Castle County Guide to Services Available in Collaboration with AARP

Volunteering AARP Delaware collaborated with the County’s Executive Office to produce the  New Castle County Guide to Services for residents age 50 or older. The 16-page booklet includes information on AARP programs such as Tax Aide and Create the Good, as well as activity centers, sports leagues, the county libraries’ “Book Buddy” program, housing assistance, public safety programs, discounts on county services, and volunteer opportunities.
