 Sunday, September 16, 1810 is the event that marks the beginning of the Mexican War of Independence and is the most important national holiday observed in Mexico. Enjoy mariachi music and dance of various regions in Mexico. Using the colors of the Mexican Flag the students will join our culinary workshop to make a classic pico de gallo.

Family Fitness Day

Get moving and get healthy by learning how to incorporate movement and healthy eating habits into your daily lifestyle. This program includes several participatory activities and demonstrations in stretching, Zumba and other activities. Healthy eating workshops will also be proivided and all attendees will receive free gift bags with exercise equipment. Come to AARP’s “Health Tracker” to which would incentivize you to exercising more and encourage you daily health monitoring.

The area now commonly referred to as Chavez Ravine was once the neighborhoods of La Loma, Palo Verde and Bishop. In the early 1950s these neighborhoods became home to Dodger Stadium. This roundtable brings together former residents, researchers and cultural performers to discuss the effects of post-World War II urban renewal projects and the lessons they hold for contemporary policies shaping urban developments.
