Are you taking care of a loved one with memory loss, dementia or Alzheimer’s disease? Do you need help understanding your role as a caregiver? If so, the Non-Metro New Mexico Area Agency on Aging has a workshop that can help.

The Savvy Caregiver course can help caregivers understand Alzheimer’s and other dementia related conditions; managing daily life and behaviors; the toll caregiving can take; caring for yourself while caring for others; decision making; and communicating.

“No one plans to be a caregiver and therefore we are unprepared,” said Toby Kessler, Provider Assistance Specialist with the Agency, who will lead the class. “The Savvy Caregiver Classes provide information that helps new caregivers  to gain knowledge,  develop skills and acquire tools to help them have a more positive and healthy attitude.”

The free courses will be held at the Agency’s Santa Fe office throughout the year with each course being held over a seven week period, one day a week for two hours, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The schedule is as follows:

Feb. 29 th through April 11

April 25 th through June 13 th

June 27 th through August 15 th

The office is located at 3900 Paseo del Sol. For more information or to register for the class call 505-395-2668 or toll-free at 1-866-699-4927.
