It’s that time of year. No, not back to school! Time for a bumper crop of corn dogs, pork sandwiches, and mini-doughnuts. County fairs, Dakotafest and the South Dakota State Fair are long-standing traditions at which we take time to get together with old friends and neighbors across the state and celebrate our rural heritage before the summer heat gives way to harvest time.
AARP South Dakota will once again have a booth at Dakotafest, August 20-21-22, in Mitchell South Dakota. It’s one of the area’s biggest showcases for all things agriculture. What does AARP have to do with Agriculture? More than you think! Farmers are self employed, and pay Social Security and Medicare payroll taxes to earn their retirement and health benefits. As beneficiaries, Farmers and ranchers would be impacted by any changes proposed to Medicare and Social Security, and they’ve Earned a Say about the future of these important programs.
We hope you’ll come see us at Booth #2103 at Dakotafest. We’ll be holding a “corn poll”, an unscientific poll giving folks an opportunity to weigh in on proposed changes to Medicare. At the end of each day, we’ll post photos to show which proposals are resonating with those who stop by our booth.
Then, on August 29, we hope you’ll join us at the Centennial Stage at the South Dakota State Fair, we’ll be holding community conversations at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm with Feeding South Dakota on how to best meet the needs of the hungry in our state. We’ll also have some fun, some games, and some give-aways for anyone who stops by to say hello! And who doesn’t love free stuff at the fair!
Can’t wait to see you there!
