LCE: Serving Those Who Served

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers a host of benefits to military veterans. But the system can be difficult to navigate, and many Americans who served their country aren’t getting the benefits they earned.

AARP Legal Counsel for the Elderly (LCE) can help low-income vets age 60-plus who are District residents determine if they are eligible for veterans’ benefits such as a pension, health coverage and burial benefits. LCE also can help District residents dealing with an overpayment debt due to having received income or benefits to which they were not entitled.

Washington, D.C., is home to 12,000 veterans age 65 and older, 653 of whom were receiving a veteran pension in September 2014. Call the LCE hotline at 202-434-2120 for help.
