AARP AARP States Delaware Caregiving

Support for Caregivers

As part of its National Day of Service observance, AARP Delaware is helping family caregivers, regardless of the age of those in their care.

The state office is contributing $5,000 to the Ronald McDonald House in Wilmington to sponsor a room for a year. Families of children under-going treatment at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children can stay there for a nominal fee. Since its opening in 1991, the house has served 42,000 families, including 2,131 in 2015.

In addition, AARP Delaware pressed successfully this year for passage of the Caregiver Advise, Record, Enable (CARE) Act, which will help caregivers be better prepared when a loved one comes home from a hospital stay.

About 123,000 Delawareans serve as un-paid family caregivers. For more information, go to aarp.org/de.
