AARP Delaware volunteers celebrated the holidays in a very special way – Spanish style!

More than 50 volunteers attended the Delaware volunteer recognition even, at Ole Tapas restaurant. It was a chance for staff to demonstrate their appreciation for the skills and talents of Delaware’s diverse corps of volunteers. Everyone enjoyed Paella, refreshments and world-class Flamenco dancing!

AARP staff kicked off the event with a warm welcome to the hardworking volunteers. They made it known that the volunteers were instrumental in driving the work of AARP in all areas of the First State. AARP Driver Safety State Coordinator, Roger Hollopeter, spoke to the group about volunteer recruitment and the variety of courses offered in 2016. Next, AARP Foundation Tax Aide coordinator Greg Alexander encouraged the group to utilize Tax Aide services and spread the word. In 2015, AARP Tax Aide in Delaware provided tax return help for more than 11,000 consumers.

The diverse group of volunteers represented all areas of AARP – multicultural outreach; Chapters; Fraud; Advocacy and more. In addition, Community Presence partners such as the University of Delaware and the Latin American Community Center joined in on the celebration. Most importantly, the event gave Delaware’s volunteers a chance have fun with AARP, and to see first-hand the level of diversity in AARP’s work in Delaware. The event ended with a heartfelt thank you from Delaware State Director Lucretia Young.
