AARP Michigan is looking for volunteer instructors for its Smart Drivers Program in the Grand Rapids and Flint areas.

In Kent County, there is a need for instructors in Grand Rapids, East Grand Rapids, Wyoming, Kentwood and Grand Haven.

In the Flint area, the program is seeking to recruit instructors to cover Flint, Swartz Creek, Fenton, Burton, Clio, and Grand Blanc.

The AARP Smart Drivers Program is the nation’s first and largest course for older drivers. It is designed to help older motorists drive safely and remain independent as long as possible. Those who take the course learn research-based driving strategies and get a refresher on the rules of the road.

Instructors must take the course, complete a training program and work with a mentor.

“Many of our instructors have commented that the course is a rewarding and meaningful way to give back to their communities and to help enhance safety on Michigan roads,” said LaJoyce Eberhardt, Volunteer Coordinator for the Smart Driver Program in Michigan.
