Encore! Expands Jobs Program to Fairfield County

For the past seven years, Encore!Hartford has provided Hartford area Connecticut professionals age 50 and older with support in transitioning from a corporate career to one in the nonprofit sector. Now, The University of Connecticut Nonprofit Leadership Program , in partnership with Fairfield County nonprofit partners, has launched Encore!Fairfield County, creating an opportunity for more southern Connecticut residents to participate in the innovative program. Encore!Fairfield County is modeled after Encore!Hartford, which has an impressive track record. A five-year assessment of the program in 2015 revealed 91% of participants finding employment (70% full-time), and 73% of those employed landing in the nonprofit sector.

Encore!Fairfield County is a four-month program that provides deep immersion of the learner in the Fairfield County nonprofit sector. All sixty-plus hours of transition education are held in Fairfield County nonprofits. Topics are taught by seasoned Fairfield County nonprofit practitioners and University of Connecticut faculty. The program is capped by a two-month Fellowship within a Fairfield County nonprofit.

AARP Connecticut – a strong partner for Encore!Hartford – will also provide support for Encore!Fairfield County, which includes $10,000 for partial or full scholarships for accepted members of the 2016 class, which begins September 1. Applicant review is based on the purposeful career direction of the applicant, transferable experience to benefit the nonprofit field and financial need. Scholarships are not constrained by age, although added consideration will be given to individuals 50 years of age and older.

Applications for one of the 25 seats are being accepted until August 15. Acceptance will be awarded through a competitive selection process based on applicant’s skills and potential for success in the nonprofit sector. The program fee is $ 2,950. For additional information and to apply, go to the Encore!Fairfield County website or contact program director Linda Friedman by email or at 860-570-9282.
