Explaining the Health Care Law

AARP is recruiting volunteers willing to help other New Hampshire residents understand the health insurance marketplaces that will begin open enrollment Oct. 1 as part of the federal Affordable Care Act.

Volunteers will be trained to give presentations to community groups and will discuss how the marketplace will work, explain benefits for the uninsured, give tips on navigating the system and describe how to enroll. Volunteers should have some public speaking experience, be able to travel and be available for orientation and training in June and July.

There are 147,200 uninsured people in the state, and nearly half (48 percent) of those 50 and older who were polled by AARP said that settling health care issues is a top challenge.
