Super-star Volunteer Gets a Head Start on the 2014 Food Drive

07.28 Wahed food drive Eid dinner

Longtime AARP Volunteer, Wahed Hossaini, collected food and donations at the Eid dinner service he attended with his family on Monday, July 28 in Fairfax.  Wahed has been "creating the good" for many years now by participating in our annual food drive.  His efforts make a huge difference for our local food pantry, ECHO.  Wahed has collected and donated over $5,000 and many thousands of pounds of food for ECHO.

To meet the challenge of hunger statewide, AARP Virginia is coordinating our annual food drive throughout the Old Dominion Sept. 8-15. Join volunteers like Wahed and make a difference in your community!  You can help at more than 150 collection sites, and donations will go to local food pantries. Collection sites will be listed on our website on August 22nd.

In Virginia, nearly 16 percent of food bank visitors are 65 or older, according to the AARP Public Policy Institute. Even so, nearly 6 percent of older Virginians are at risk of hunger.
