With the new year coming, it's time for resolutions about what's ahead for 2016.  One of the most important areas to examine is your financial health.  Do you have debt you want to control?  Are you stuck in a predatory loan?  Are you part of the sandwich generation--i.e., taking care of your parents and your children at the same time?  AARP Utah and the AAA Fair Credit Foundation want to help by providing resources and information that can put you back on track.  Together we're holding a workshop, "Making 2016 Financial Resolutions a Reality" on January 12 that will cover financial challenges for older adults, reverse mortgages, and financial issues around being in the sandwich generation.

As AARP Utah State Director Alan Ormsby states, "We're ready to provide resources and tools about how to make financial resolutions a reality.  There are some simple steps that can be taken to help overcome financial challenges.  It's never too late to examine your personal finances and start a plan about how to build savings for the future."

Martha Wunderli, Executive Director of the AAA Fair Credit Foundation, will be presenting information about financial challenges for older adults, including how to put together a budget, handle a loss of income, deal with credit issues, and avoid predatory loans.  Alyssa Campbell Fereday, a Certified Housing Counselor and Certified Financial Counselor with the Foundation, will address reverse mortgages, explaining what they are, when and if to consider them, and what to avoid when examining reverse mortgage options.  She explained, "There's a lot of information about reverse mortgages that can be confusing.  We'll help clarify what they are and answer questions people may have about using them."

Here is the information you'll need to attend the workshop, which is free:
