Grandparents Day Essay Contest Results

EssayContest
AARP Michigan received over 200 entries in this year’s “Why I Love My Grandparents” essay contest.  Heartwarming essays from students throughout the state shared stories of love and the special bond shared between grandparents and grandchildren.

Rachel Witan, our grand prize iPad winner, a 16 year old from Sterling Heights, wrote about her grandparents’ display of unselfish love and making time to develop deep, personal relationships with each of their grandchildren.

Second place winner of a Nook e-reader, 13-year-old Charles Frost of Detroit, said of his grandparents, “they’re the best gift your parents can ever give you” and shared that a simple hug from his grandmother can transform a bad day into a good one.

Danny Bartolotta, a 17 year old from Washington, third place winner of a Kindle Fire shared that his grandparents taught him many important lessons, including being courageous and maintaining a positive attitude.

An award ceremony will be held later this month at Impression 5 Science Museum in Lansing.
