Help the Hungry: Volunteer

man getting groceries at foodbank

In Nevada, where hunger threatens roughly 16 percent of people over 60, AARP is seeking volunteers to help at community food banks.

Nevada’s continued high unemployment and foreclosure rates mean that older people on fixed incomes are forced to choose between costly medications and purchasing food.

With many volunteers away during the summer, AARP Nevada is urging people to help at Three Square in Las Vegas and the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.

Volunteers are needed to pack meals, sort supplies and help enroll low-income people in a grocery assistance program. For information on volunteering, call 211. To volunteer, go to threesquare.org and fbnn.org.
