Hoist a Craft Beer at Two Local Breweries

BeerGlass

It’s AARP’s inaugural craft beer day on Saturday, August 16 at two local breweries: Milly’s Tavern in Manchester and White Birch Brewing in Hooksett.

“Craft Beer Day at AARP was inspired by a very successful local wine tour last year,” said AARP New Hampshire State Director Todd Fahey. “Participants at the wineries suggested we try a beer tour in 2014. And that is what we are offering.”

Brewing in New Hampshire is believed to be nearly as old – 400 years – as European settlements and for two centuries, most beer was brewed and served in taverns. Today’s microbreweries and beer pubs reflect those roots. Histories say English settlers feared that fresh water would make them sick, so they drank beer and other beverages!

White Birch Brewing will offer free tours and free tastings from noon to 4:00. Two free educational sessions on pairing the beer and cheese will take place at 1:00 and 3:00.

Milly’s Tavern will be open 11:00 to 4:00 and will offer free tastings and free tours at 11:30, 12:30, 2:00 and 3:00. There will also be free cheese and crackers for AARP members during the day.

Check out the websites of both breweries for special seasonal brews and find out what else is “on tap.” Don’t forget your AARP membership card!
