Sharpen Your Skills with Driver Safety Class

Driver Safety Program
Instructors needed to help people drive smart

Motorists can sharpen their skills and possibly earn a discount on car insurance by taking an AARP Driver Safety class. You can take the Smart Driver course in a classroom or online to learn current rules of the road, such as how to navigate roundabouts, as well as defensive driving techniques, such as how to manage common age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time.

“Even the most experienced drivers can benefit from brushing up on their skills,” said Leo Duffy, AARP Iowa driver safety coordinator. The cost of the course is $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers. To find a class near you, go to aarp.org/drive, click on Course Locator and enter your zip code.

AARP Iowa also is recruiting volunteers to teach the class in cities and towns statewide. Training is provided. To volunteer, go to aarp.org/drive and click on Volunteer.
