Jacksonville, Fla. – Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown and AARP Florida State Director Jeff Johnson today announced that AARP will be the presenting sponsor of the 2014 Jazz Festival May 22-26.

“On behalf of nearly 125,000 AARP members here in Jacksonville, I am delighted to join Mayor Brown today in announcing this sponsorship,” Johnson said in making the announcement.  “Like lasers, cellphones and chocolate chip cookies, jazz is an American creation.  There’s no better place to celebrate jazz than here in Jacksonville.”

“The Jazz Festival has long been one of Jacksonville’s signature events,” said Mayor Brown. “It’s a growing tradition that gets bigger and better every year. This year promises to be the best ever. The Jazz Festival is just one more example why downtown Jacksonville is where people want to be.”

The 2014 Jazz Festival marks the 32nd year of the event in Jacksonville.  The event annually attracts 150,000 or more attendees, and has grown into one of the largest and most prestigious jazz festivals in the United States.
The festival features dozens of artists and bands, including both nationally known stars and local artists.  Events include the Art in the Heart of Downtown art show, the Jazz Piano Competition, the Jazz Sunday Brunch, the Youth Talent Jazz Competition and events honoring individuals named to the Jacksonville Jazz Hall of Fame.
