Lynn Young Selected as Recipient of 2016 Andrus Award

AARP Idaho announced today that Lynn Young of Meridian was selected to receive the 2016 Andrus Award for Community Service, the Association’s most prestigious volunteer award. Each year AARP honors the legacy of AARP founder, Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus, with the AARP Andrus Award for Community Service. This award is a symbol of the power of individuals to make a difference in the lives of others. AARP Idaho state director Lupe Wissel will present the honor to Young at an upcoming ceremony in Boise.

In congratulating Young, Wissel said “Lynn Young has always recognized the important role volunteers play in making society better. It’s a pleasure to present this honor to a person who has given of herself to make an important difference in the lives of others. Her spirit of service has left an indelible mark on communities across Idaho.”

Lynn has been a volunteer with AARP since 2005. She served on the AARP Idaho Executive Council from 2011–2016 and continues to serve in various capacities including her work on AARP’s National Policy Council (NPC) for the past six years. The NPC is an all-volunteer policy analysis and advisory body to AARP’s board of directors. The NPC is tasked with leading efforts to integrate member and public opinion with careful study of policies, and making policy recommendations to the board.

In addition to her work with AARP, Lynn is a member of the Meridian Mayor’s Senior Advisory Board, Soroptimist International, Idaho Power Company’s Energy Efficiency Advisory Committee and the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare Weatherization Policy Council.
