Martinsburg High's Trey Henry Named AARP WV/MetroNews Scholar Athlete of the Week

Bulldogs’ standout student athlete earns AARP/MetroNews statewide honor

Trey Henry of Martinsburg High School has been selected as the AARP West Virginia/MetroNews Scholar Athlete of the Week for the week of September 24.

A senior, Trey is a 3.0 g.p.a. Honor Roll student. He is a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Eastern Panhandle Young Life program. Trey is the son of Brandy Forsyth of Martinsburg.

A team captain for Coach Dave Walker’s defending Class AAA WVSSAC State Champions, Trey is a starting offensive guard and defensive lineman. He is a two-time Class AAA All State honoree, earning Special Honorable Mention honors as a junior and an Honorable Mention selection as a sophomore. He earned All-Eastern Panhandle Athletic Conference honors as a sophomore and junior. Trey is also a three-year member of the Martinsburg track team, competing in throwing events for the Bulldogs.

On a community level, Trey is actively involved in volunteer and service activities in the Berkeley County area. With his Bulldog football teammates, Trey has participated in visits with veterans at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center throughout his high school career. He has served as a community volunteer, assisting with collection drives for the Martinsburg Union Rescue Mission. He also serves as a mentor and volunteer with local elementary schools in the Martinsburg area.

Trey is still considering his college options, and plans to continue his athletic career on the collegiate level.

During the 2017 Fall Sports season, one high school student athlete will be selected each week as the AARP West Virginia Scholar Athlete of the Week and recognized on the popular West Virginia MetroNews High School GameNight program, which airs 9:30 p.m. – midnight each Friday night on nearly 40 radio stations across the Mountain State .

West Virginia student athletes in Grades 11 and 12 with a minimum 3.0 grade point average are eligible for the award. Nominees should excel in one or more athletic program, and be active within their community through service and community involvement.
