AARP DC Cheers Mayor Bowser for Signing the CARE Act

DC-CARE Act Thanks Mayor Bowser

AARP DC volunteers were excited to learn that Mayor Muriel Bowser signed into law the Caregiver Advise, Record and Enable (CARE) Act of 2015.

"We applaud Mayor Muriel Bowser for signing the CARE Act, which will provide more than 75,000 family caregivers in the District of Columbia the tools they need to provide care for a loved one," says Rev. Joseph K Williams, Sr., M.Div., State President for AARP-DC.

The CARE Act requires that hospitals provide patients with an opportunity to select a caregiver after hospital admission, and it requires that hospitals record contact information for the caregivers and consult with them about the patient’s care plan after discharge.

The signing of the CARE Act, is just one of many policies that AARP volunteer advocates are working on within the 2016 AARP DC advocacy agenda. To learn more about the passage of the CARE Act, see the full statement released by Mayor Bowser. #iHeartCaregivers
