AARP Maryland is set to participate in the upcoming Ride Across Maryland (RAM), a two-day motorcycle event with an ultimate goal of raising money and awareness for the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults.

The RAM 2016 event is in its 16th year, and will include the first-ever "Team AARP," consisting of six motorcycle riders from Ocean City, Maryland who will individually complete a 150-mile ride throughout Maryland—from Columbia to Ocean City. The excursion will include escorts over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, adventures through the back roads of the Eastern Shore, and more.

“The ride will be lengthy, sure, but certainly inspirational,” said Ron Engle, the unofficial leader of Team AARP. “I’m looking forward to completing the 150 miles, spending some time in Ocean City with fellow riders, and of course raising money and awareness for young adults battling cancer.”

Upon arrival in Ocean City, riders, friends and families will gather at the Francis Scott Key Resort for in the evening for the RAM Jam- a celebration of the ride’s fundraising efforts, where riders will honor and remember those who have fought or are fighting cancer. All participants are required to fundraise a minimum of $70 to represent the 70,000 young adults in the United States who will likely be diagnosed with cancer this year.

Throughout its tenure, RAM has raised more than $2.5 million for various causes at the Ulman Cancer Fund, including an annual scholarship awarded to young adults impacted by breast cancer through a personal diagnosis, or a diagnosis of a family member.
