RAM 2016: Team AARP Rides Across Maryland for Charity

The 16th annual Ride Across Maryland (RAM) on June 4 included the first-ever “Team AARP:” a dedicated and spirited team of six motorcycle riders from Ocean City, Maryland, who individually completed a 150-mile ride from Columbia to Ocean City. The ultimate goal of the weekend was to raise money and awareness for the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults. All participants were required to fundraise a minimum of $70 to represent the 70,000 young adults in the United States who will likely be diagnosed with cancer this year. In its 16 th year, RAM raised more than $50,000.

Team AARP had a blast, riding a combination of Harley Davidson and Honda bikes during the event. "Just because we are a little older doesn't mean we can't have fun. As the saying goes, 'You just don't know AARP!'" said Mina Engle, a participant of Team AARP who took photos of the team at various points along the Ride.

“Once we arrived in Ocean City, we helped out at the RAM Jam to hand out AARP goodies to younger folks to help them understand that AARP is for everyone - not just retired people,” said Larry Walton, AARP volunteer and AARP Chapter Leader in Ocean Pines.
