AARP is fighting identity theft in Maine, and invites everyone—members and nonmembers alike—to bring a box or bag of papers to one of several free shredding events in the state.

Gather your outdated bank statements, canceled checks, credit card junk mail and receipts with identifying information and bring them to a shredding truck. Staples and paper clips don’t need to be removed.

“Securely disposing of sensitive documents is a good way to keep your personal information out of the hands of identity thieves,” said Jane Margesson, AARP Maine communications director.

Identity theft tops the list of types of fraud Mainers 50-plus worry about, followed by credit card theft and Internet fraud.

The following are the dates and locations of shredding events.  If you have any questions, please call us at 1-866-554-5380 toll-free.
