As winter draws near, AARP North Dakota is encouraging people who have a hard time paying their utility bills to apply for help with heating costs.

The state’s heating assistance program helps pay for fuel to heat the homes of individuals with annual income up to $25,773 or couples with income up to $33,703. Call 800-755-2716 or apply here. Applications also are available at county social services offices.

In addition, such households can apply for weatherization assistance at one of seven community action agencies in North Dakota. The weatherization program helps pay for one-time costs of insulation, heating system repairs and other energy-efficient measures.
