Northern VA Senior Olympic’s 35th Anniversary Season - Registration is now Open

Registration for the 2017 Northern Virginia Senior Olympics is now Open.

The NVSO’s events  exercise the mind as well as the body. To qualify for the Olympics participants must turn 50-years-old by Dec. 31, 2017.

Participants can register online at www.nvso.us or can register via mail with paper registrations that are available at most  county recreation and senior centers. Registrations can also be downloaded at www.nvso.us. You can also receive a printed registration form by calling (703) 830-5604.

Deadline for online NVSO registration is Sept. 2. All paper registrations must be postmarked by Aug. 26.  The games are scheduled to commence Saturday, Sept. 9 and conclude Sept. 20.

The NVSO is celebrating its 35th anniversary this fall. The games began in 1982 with about 80 persons competing. In 2016 more than 900 Northern Virginians took part.  The NVSO is one of the largest annual seniors events in the region.

The NVSO’s basic registration fee is $13.  A fee of $1 is added for each event entered. Some events require additional fees including bowling $10 (includes lunch), cycling $5 (to help cover the cost of traffic control and electronic timing), Golf $65 (includes green fees, lunch, and cart), and orienteering $5 (includes compass rental).

The NVSO is also seeking volunteers to help at its venues across Northern Virginia. Those interested in volunteering should contact RSVP Northern Virginia at 703-403-5360 or email RSVP at rsvp@volunteerfairfax.org
