AARP Oregon is hosting events throughout the state this summer to listen to the needs of unpaid family caregivers, who shoulder the stress of caring for adult loved ones at home.

Community conversations in 12 cities will help the state office establish policy priorities regarding respite for caregivers. Meetings are scheduled in Albany, June 7; Roseburg, June 8; Lincoln City, June 9; Eugene, June 14; Medford, June 15; Salem, June 16; Beaverton, June 21; Portland, June 28; Astoria, June 29; Bend, July 12; Burns, July 13; and Pendleton, July 14.

In a recent survey of Oregon voters 45 and older, half of those who are caregivers said they have had to modify their work schedules to care for an adult at home. Oregon’s 469,000 family caregivers handle complex tasks, such as managing medications and medical equipment, giving injections and dressing wounds.
