People of faith working together for healthier communities

NEW ORLEANS -- In North Carolina, the faith-based community is instrumental in educating and promoting the health and wellness of people in communities across the state. This week on Real Life, you’ll learn more about efforts by AARP and the faith-based community here and in other states.

You’ll hear from Linetta McIver, AARP Louisiana Associate State Director, who explains how AARP is helping Louisianans become better self-advocates when it comes to health and other needs. AARP has been a catalyst for building stronger communities in New Orleans and other cities in the state.

Host Debra Tyler Horton was in New Orleans to participate in the national conference of the Health Ministries Association (HMA), an organization that encourages, supports and empowers leaders in the integration of faith and health in local communities.  HMA includes faith community nurses, health ministers, program leaders, and spiritual leaders who have developed health ministries in diverse faith communities.

You can listen to the program here or on your local Real Life station
