The award is the Association’s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award for community service and symbolizes an individual’s ability to make a difference in other peoples’ lives.
Riedl is being honored for her long-standing service with the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program where she has volunteered for more than 32 years assisting people with tax preparation. Riedl is currently the Volunteer State Training Specialist for the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program in Arizona. She has also served as the Volunteer District Coordinator for the program in the Quad Cities area.
The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program is a free community service that provides free tax-counseling and preparation service for middle and low-income people.
During the recent 2012 tax-filing season, Riedl worked six days a week helping local residents with tax preparation and was responsible for all program activities in the Quad Cities area.
In addition to her volunteering with AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, Riedl donates her time to the American Youth Soccer Organization in Prescott where she serves as Northern Arizona Area Director. She is also the Chair of the City of Prescott’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Panel where she works to meet the recreational needs of the residents of Prescott. Riedl’s other volunteer activities include being a long-standing member of the Prescott Athletic Board and serving as the Treasurer for the North American Adult Soccer Organization.
Recipients across the nation were chosen for their ability to enhance the lives of AARP members and prospective members, improve the community in or for which the work was performed, and inspire others to volunteer.
“We are pleased to present this year’s award to Janelle, a long-standing volunteer with our AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program,” said David Mitchell, AARP Arizona State Director. “Janelle is a wonderful volunteer role model. She cares about people and her fellow Tax-Aide volunteers. She is devoted to service and inspires people around her with her passion for volunteerism.”
