We are pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the 2013 AARP District of Columbia Andrus Award for Community Service -- AARP’s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award for community service.

The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding  DC residents age 50+ who are making a powerful difference in their communities in ways that are consistent with AARP’s mission, vision, and commitment to volunteer service and that  inspire others to volunteer.  The 2012 award recipient, Barbara Hair (center), is pictured at the 2012 AARP DC Recognition banquet with AARP DC State President Mercy Morganfield and AARP DC State Director Louis Davis, Jr.

We know that you have seen and experienced the impact that a dedicated, caring and experienced volunteer can have on lives, programs, communities, and society.  This is an opportunity to recognize that impact and to let an outstanding volunteer know that his or her service is valued.

Please take a few moments to visit www.aarp.org/AndrusAward ,  where you can review the eligibility requirements, selection criteria, and nomination materials and nominate one of the exceptional volunteers in your life.

Nominations must be received in the AARP District of Columbia State Office no later than June 1, 2013.  If you have questions about the AARP Andrus Award for Community Service or would like additional copies of the nomination materials, please send an email to the DC State Office at dcaarp@aarp.org.
