Remembering 9/11 with Day of Service

The tragedy and heroics of September 11th will be forever etched into the hearts and minds of Americans across our great country.

Each year on this anniversary, AARP joins others around the country to not only honor the victims and survivors of 9/11, but to unite in service in the same remarkable way that so many came together following the attacks.

Across our organization, AARP employees and volunteers alike took part of our annual Day of Service, stepping away from “business as usual” in order to give back to our local communities.

Here in Wisconsin, our state office staff joined efforts with the Colonial Club  to help prepare and deliver meals to senior residents in Sun Prairie and other metro Madison communities, on-site diners and participants of the adult day center. In total, 90 seniors were provided with a hot and nutritious noon meal.

As AARP’s founder Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus said best, "We learn the inner secret of happiness when we learn to direct our attention to something besides ourselves."
