AARP Louisiana presented State Senator Yvonne Colomb with the 2016 Legislator of the Year Award for championing issues that improve the quality of life for older Louisianans.

AARP volunteers selected Senator Colomb of Baton Rouge because she fought for family caregivers on several fronts.  Senator Colomb led the fight on behalf of 600,000 family caregivers by authoring the Louisiana Family Caregiver Act, which improves the involvement of family caregivers during their loved one’s hospital stay.

She also authored the Uniform Adult Guardianship Act which will allow family caregivers to better care for loved ones across state lines by ensuring adult guardianship laws are consistent and honored from state to state.

nator Colomb for working with our volunteers and giving them a voice in the legislature,” said   Denise Bottcher, State Director, AARP Louisiana. “This award recognizes the tireless dedication and commitment Senator Colomb has toward older Louisianans and making their lives brighter.”

“AARP has long valued legislative leaders who champion issues that are important to the 50+ population and the impact they make to their communities, neighbors, and the programs they serve,” said Andrew Muhl, Advocacy Director, AARP Louisiana.
