In the legislative session that begins Jan. 9, AARP Kansas once again will be backing a bill that could help family caregivers when a loved one comes home from a hospital stay.

Previously introduced in 2015, the Caregiver Advise, Record, Enable (CARE) Act would let every hospital patient designate a family caregiver, whose contact information would be recorded in the patient’s chart. The hospital would then make reasonable efforts to inform the caregiver about discharge plans and show the caregiver how to perform follow-up tasks the patient will need at home.

AARP Kansas will also support legislation that could help more workers save for retirement through automatic payroll deductions.
